Bichon Frise History

The Bichon Frise was first seen in the 14th century. This breed was a cross between the Barbet Water Spaniel and the Poodle. The Bichon Frise was traded by the Spanish sailors and quickly became a favorite dog breed by the French royal courts. The Bichon was popular dog as used by circus performers in their acts. Today, the Bichon is seen as a family dog, lovable companion, and show dog.

Bichon Frise's Appearance

The Bichon Frise is very fluffy and looks like a little puffball. The breed carries a loosely curled coat with fine silky hairs. The coat is considered to be hypoallergenic and is mostly all white. Sometimes a cream coloring may be seen but for the most part white is the main color.

The Bichon has an average muzzle and a scissors bite. The eyes are rounded and dark with a look of intelligence. The coat will on average be trimmed for a rounded look but sometimes can be clipped in a fashion similar to that of the Poodle. The neck is long and the chest is full of fluff. The ears hang off of the head and are also covered in this fully hair.

Bichon Frise Temperament

The Bichon Frise is an adorable little white dog that loves the company of humans. This dog breed is known to be very charming and also very independent. They are affectionate and self-assured. They are quite calm and do not bark a lot. These little dogs are very sociable and happy go lucky.

Bichon Frises are excellent pets and fair quite well around children. They can be protective and can serve as a watchdog if needed. They are fine when around other dogs or house pets and have a sweet natured personality. They are known to be obedient and also competitive. They will often love to perform tricks.
